I hope everyone is well.
Given recent updates provided today by the Government, we believe it is also time to update club advice and also remind some members on the situation regarding COVID.
Firstly, can I remind anyone with new symptoms of a cough, fever, sore throat, flu like illness NOT to come down to the lake but to follow government guidance on self isolation. The same applies to anyone with a confirmed close contact or appropriate travel history. This is now 7 days of self isolation if you are a single individual or 14 days of isolation for families if anyone has symptoms (https://www.gov.uk/government/topical-events/coronavirus-covid-19-uk-government-response).
Regarding social separation/distancing, in light of today’s announcements please can we remind people that the safest thing to do is to arrive, change outside, enjoy your swim and head straight home. Any huddling in small groups, be it outside or in, almost certainly results in people being less than 2m apart for more than 15 mins and thus increases the risk of transmission from what we know at the present time.
Further to our previous email it has also come to light that a mystery person(s) have unlocked the changing room door (this was noted on both Saturday and Sunday) and been continuing to use our facilities despite the current restrictions. I know this may sound rather paternalistic but please stop!
We will be placing some signage on the door tomorrow to ensure anyone not receiving these emails is aware of the situation.
We have not come to this decision lightly and I can’t believe anyone would want to put the most vulnerable members of the club at risk. We will keep you updated as the situation progresses and if we need to take any additional measures in the future.
Please stay safe, look out for one another and be sensible.
The Health and Safety Committee and President
