Paul won the Andean Cup, Felicity was second, Katherine third and Vanessa thirtieth. Prizes were provided by the Luckhurst family.

The Andean Cup was first swam for in 1987 sponsored by Pat and Bill Vincent. Pat was organising a charity to help subsistence  farmers in the Andes to grow sustainable crops and the Cup was introduced to publicise the charity. The first time the Cup was presented bemused Chilean diplomats turned up and t shirts publicising the charity were handed out. The Cup was subsequently sponsored by Barney ‘Dusty’ Miller and Ian Stuttard and was raced in various formats before becoming an 880 yard race in the Telegraph (now Emi Hunte) series. In 2017 the Serpentine’s own version of cinemas ‘Incredibles’ , the Luckhurst family, took on sponsorship.

Today’s prizes from the Luckhurst’s turned the Serpentine into a farmers market with copious home produced food and drink for prize winners including a thirtieth placed Vanessa who was awarded a food and drink box to commemorate a special occasion in John and Linda’s lives. The family make a tremendous contribution to the club with John looking after Cup engraving, gardening provision for older club members and recently taking on the responsibility for managing the marker buoys we rely on. Linda as well as being a highly skilled medical practitioner is also a keen swimmer and  first class baker whose efforts are always much appreciated by the club. Alan is vice captain of the club and active in organising our representation at galas. William and Katherine are regular and highly competitive swimmers in club races.
