A wonderful race to celebrate the life and contributions of one of kindest and gentlest departed swimmers, Roy Wrey.
Gary was second, Ben third. Unfortunately due to confusion over dates Laura and Jon Tomlinson sponsors of the race were not able to present the cup and prizes.
Roy Wrey was a gentle man and a gentleman who joined the Club in the late 1950s and won the Christmas Day race in 1961. He was a regular attendee at the Serp until his wife’s long term illness led to him having to withdraw from the Club. He rejoined in the early part of this century and such was his popularity within the Club that he was elected the 25 th President in 2004. Sadly he died in office in 2006.
