Our NINTH Channel Swimmer of 2012!!
Sun, 09 Sep 2012
Quiet SSC member Ian Stoughton swims the English ChannelIan is a rather quiet man, but has been training in the Serpentine for much of the summer.
As a serving police officer, he is no stranger to heroics, having been drafted in at the last minute to work for many weeks at the Olympics. He also won a Sun Police Bravery award for saving a drowning teenager from a river. Read more about it here, a third of the way down the page.
Ian 'warmed up' for his solo Channel swim, by joining the Serps relay team organised by John Tierney at the eleventh hour.
Ian swam the Channel on Sunday 9th Septmeber in 13 hours and 7 minutes, making him the 9th Channel swimmer from the Serps this summer, completing our 10th crossing for the club (Kevin selfishly did two!).
As with all those that have swum the Channel from the Serps this year, Ian is a very calm and modest man, and an honour to have as a member.
