The publishers of H2Open held an open day in Reading

Congratulations to Colin Hill on winning the hotly contested Open Water Ambassador of the Year of the Year Award at today’s H2Open Day. He beat off Kate Rew, Steve Munatones and the entire Henley Swim team!

Well done to Nick Adams. Although not nominated for Coach of the Year, the editor felt he deserved a mention.

In true Serpie fashion, Colin and Nick were both judges - but the editor assures us they were not allowed to vote.

Cassie Paton (Olympic Bronze, marathon swim) presented the awards, which isn’t unusual. What surprised me was that she arrived at the start of the day and sat in the audience for all the talks. The talks were all excellent. Colin enthused everybody about the Olympic marathon swim and Nick managed to stay calm when his first question was ‘what do you think about wetsuits’!

There was a good turnout of non-wetsuit swimmers in the ‘timed swim’. The first home was Ollie Wilkinson, without a wetsuit. The charming and modest Roger Alsopp, the oldest man to swim the channel (he says he would rather be the youngest!), also joined us without a wetsuit.

A GOOD day.
