Fettes Cup 2017 Week 3 and 4

Kiss and Tell

In journalism, it's a maxim that you always lead with the strongest point, but avid Serpentine hacks will appreciate my hour of content discontent in this busy week.

There’s been a lot of surgery discussion taking place, so which story should lead? Could the Vicar’s limp wrist hold sway? After all, a broken scafoid is no fun. Or should the success of Rob’s post English Channel swim liposuction (read tummy tuck) wobble to the top of the page? Maybe Stu’s lifestyle surgery wins by a nose job? Though Stu says “it wasn’t plastic surgery - how can you improve on perfection?” As they might say, 'time wounds all heals.'

You can cry on my perhaps Sisyphusian left shoulder, but please not over the next six weeks as I port an over the shoulder boulder holder.

Now about the swimming which is why we gather; Norm was one of the winners as we reached the halfway point in the Winter Series. Dani and Robin, respectable men in their 40s and 70s, also reached halfway in their mid-Serpentine embrace. As the Olympians might have said, ‘it’s not the winning, but the taking part.’

Band Aids all round.

Yours swimmingly

John Tierney
